My Artful Heart Mixed-Media Assemblages If you enjoyed my recent article in Cloth Paper Scissors, then you're going to LOVE this fast-paced class! Join me and see firsthand how to transform a plain, boring white canvas into a marvelous mixed-media work of art. Together we will explore a variety of ways to create texture and depth. Participants will work with various materials including tissue paper, gesso, paint, chipboard, and 3-dimensional objects. Through experimentation and play, we will learn to build layer upon layer to achieve a rich and complex composition. Students will leave with at least one (possibly two) finished pieces of artwork on canvas, ready to hang or give as a gift. In addition, individuals will take home a myriad of sketches in various stages of completion on watercolor paper. Your creations in this class will be sure to make your heart skip a beat! (suggested class length: 6 hours) |

Going Deep Do you ever feel like your art could be more authentic? Are you courageous enough to delve deeper? If so, then join us on this most personal of journeys. We'll begin the day by reconnecting to our inner child through simple writing exercises. Fragments of these precious texts will then form the foundation of our project as we shift our focus to one of play and discovery. Together we'll push the boundaries of paint and collage, develop our own unique language of symbols and learn to apply color with a palette knife. Throughout the day we will question and explore our artistic voices as we gain a better understanding of what makes our art our own. You'll take home a creation showcasing every bit as much complexity, depth, and personality as your innermost self. Note: Feel free to adapt this class if you'd prefer to create a special artwork honoring a family member, a beloved pet, or a deserving friend. Your art journal or any other substrate will work equally as well as canvas. (suggested class length: 6 hours) |
